Helpful Homestead Books…..that should be in your library.

In our trek to becoming homesteaders we were constantly looking for good information that was easy to understand for us beginners. Step by step tutorials were always a huge help….Some of the books we bought are:

The Backyard Homestead will help you produce all the food you need on just a quarter acre. It has great tips on raising animals and growing vegetables. It has info on home grown grains, poultry and eggs.

We (as you might know) have chickens. We learned some helpful hints in this book for our chickens. This book also gives some good info on harvesting fruits and berries plus gardening in a small area.

Backyard Meat Rabbits is a short easy to read book for someone with the interest in raising rabbits. It will give you some helpful tips on how to begin and it has some informative pictures.
I referred to this book a lot at the beginning of our rabbit adventure.

Get them here on Amazon….

These books have been so helpful in our education of suburban homesteading. They are full of fabulous information to help anybody get started.

My husband also goes on youtube often to follow other peoples progress and advice.

He watches Growing Your Greens here:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EgcI7tz2bDE
This is a great place to get tips on organic gardening. They are also pretty fun to watch and full of good information.

So you are not alone in achieving your dream of homesteading even when you are in the burbs on a small lot. Our backyard is not large but we use the space wisely. We are now putting raised beds in the front yard and they work great and look pleasing.

With all we have, the kids still have plenty of room to play.
