As we go through the holiday season I want my children to have fond memories and I don’t want them to forget the true meaning of this celebration.
Quite a few years ago we bought the kids this toy manger scene. They still love to play with it and it gets it special place in the living room. It reminds us of the first Christmas when our Savior became a man to live here on earth.
Of course every year we get a tree and decorate the house. I am not a decorator at heart so my daughters take on the job. Our house is no model home but it is cozy and inviting, with the special feeling of the season.
Church is always an important activity. We go caroling with our church group and have the opportunity to attend other churches in our area to see their special programs. What a blessing to be able to take the kids to stage productions that proclaim the gospel.
We also bake and bake and bake. My daughter is a wiz in the kitchen and we can always expect a yummy surprise. We love to give goodie bags to the neighbors to let them know how much we appreciate them. It’s a win win situation.
We have an advent calendar. It helps with the count down. Hopefully it also helps us look forward to the Messiah’s coming.
As a parent I want to give my children good memories. We all remember the good times of childhood the rest of our lives.
I’m sure you all have traditions for your family Christmas. I’m always looking for easy ideas to create memories. I’m a minimalist even when it comes to celebrations. Clutter and clean up are always issues with me yet I’m sure that is not the most important thing. My kids need to know that Christmas celebrations are important. It was like the best day ever.
